Trekking Mount Rinjani is one of Indonesia’s most unforgettable mountain adventures. Standing proudly above Lombok, this active volcano offers sweeping crater panoramas, dramatic ridgelines and a true sense of achievement. A Mount Rinjani trekking tour is a guided experience where an expert local team handles the camping, cooking and safety while you focus on enjoying the journey.
At Atta’s Travel Lombok, we specialise in guided mountain treks in Lombok, helping guests discover Rinjani with confidence and comfort.

Best Time for Rinjani Trekking
Rinjani is closed from 1 January to 31 March each year due to the monsoon season.
Outside this period, conditions are usually good.
Dry Season (April–November)
Trekkers enjoy:
Clearer skies
Better visibility
Lower chance of rain
Crisp, cool evenings at the crater rim
July and August are the busiest months, but the government now limits trekking numbers daily. This makes the experience more enjoyable and preserves the environment.
We recommend booking early so we can secure your trekking permits in advance.
Rinjani Trek Difficulty Guide
Rinjani is a challenging but achievable trek for anyone with moderate fitness and determination. Expect natural mountain terrain, including rocky paths, forest trails and the well-known sandy summit ridge. The summit push is the hardest part, but with patient pacing and support from our team, most guests reach the top proudly.
Here’s a breakdown of the two most popular itineraries:
2 Days 1 Night – Summit Trek Overview
The 2D1N summit trek is a compact itinerary for travellers wanting to reach the summit in two days without feeling rushed. Even though the journey is completed over less time, your pace is always your own. Our guides allow for frequent breaks, photo stops and steady, comfortable progress.
You’ll spend one night at the crater rim, where the sunset views are breathtaking. Summit day begins early, and while the final sandy ascent is demanding, guests with reasonable fitness usually do extremely well and find the sunrise at the top absolutely worth the effort.
If you want to climb Mount Rinjani in just 2 days, you can book our 2 Days 1 Night Rinjani Summit Trek package.
3 Days 2 Nights – Summit Trek Overview
The 3D2N trek includes everything in the 2-day trek but with an extra day & night, giving you more time to enjoy the mountain and its incredible scenery.
A major highlight of this itinerary is the descent to the crater lake and natural hot springs. This section feels like stepping into another world — dramatic cliffs, turquoise water and the chance to soak tired legs in warm volcanic pools. Many guests say this is one of their favourite parts of the entire trek.
If you want to climb Mount Rinjani in just 3 days, you can book our 3 Days 2 Nights Rinjani Summit Trek package.
Is Mount Rinjani Trek Suitable for Beginners?
Yes, many beginners complete Rinjani every year and absolutely love it.

While it is considered a challenging adventure, you do not need to be an expert hiker to reach the summit. With the right mindset, preparation, and guidance, first-time trekkers can enjoy the journey safely and confidently.
Expect:
Open savannah
Shaded forest paths
Rocky mountain trails
Volcanic sand on the summit slope (the hardest part)
A moderate level of fitness is usually enough to take part in the trek. Regular walking, light hiking, or simple cardio exercises in the weeks before your trip can help prepare your body. The route itself offers a variety of landscapes, from open savannah and shaded forest paths to rocky mountain trails. The most demanding section is the summit slope, where you will walk on volcanic sand, but with steady pacing and determination, many beginners manage it well.
Throughout the trek, you will be supported by friendly and highly experienced local guides who understand the mountain and the needs of different hikers. They maintain a comfortable pace, provide encouragement when the trail becomes tough, and ensure everyone feels safe and motivated. With the right support system and preparation, Mount Rinjani can be an achievable and rewarding adventure even for beginners.
